review 1: Ashfall is one of my favorite books that I have ever read. To think of a scenario that could possibly happen added to the thrill of the book and Alex’s journey for survival more adventurous were great ideas by the author. I enjoyed how this volcanic eruption/ “end of the earth” scene was not just a simple problem. This was the hardest problem for Alex to overcome and get to his family. With this much anticipation, it was frightening to see how this could be a real life story and that I would be very unprepared. I felt very connected to this book and liked it a lot because the way the author made this character, although the protagonist of the story (Alex) was similar to me, he had that fight and apprehensiveness within him and we got to observe that before the super ... morevolcanic eruption and during it. All the tension made this book so great, and my favorite books are ones that have lots of tension and real life scenarios.
review 2: This book was ok...not great, but ok. I think the story was very interesting and there are for sure some cliffhangers and catchy moments that keep you reading. However, I think the writing was not well put together and there were a lot of unnecessary and pretty silly scenes throughout the story. I found myself rolling my eyes whenever Alex would come up with some random qualm that really was not the "big picture" in the story. I might eventually read the other two in the trilogy, but for now the first one was enough. I recommend this to fans of thinks such as the "Walking Dead" or other apocalyptic type stories. less
