review 1: I found Alex's drive to find Darla a little annoying, but I can empathize with his teenaged-love. The descriptions of cannibalism were so vivid that it made me question the lengths that I would go to save myself and my family. I had also never thought about scurvy, not having freshwater and trying to survive with in a perpetual winter. I also love that this sequel takes off right where the first one left off.
review 2: Holy Cow! I am hooked. Will Darla and Alex ever catch a break? This book truly depicts the worst in people, and the best....Alex is trying to fight his way to family and save those he loves. I enjoyed his struggle between being a "good" person while trying to survive in a savaged world. I found myself Ina struggle to hate the Flenser, without ... morefeeling bad for them...but I think the book also shows that the choice lies within humanity to take to high road, or fall far from grace. Looking forward to book three. less
