review 1: Very funny. All of the advice people gave was immediately contradicted by the next person interviewed. The two consistent running themes were "work hard" and "don't do it for the money cause there isn't any". It was fascinating to hear people who have "made it" talk about their craft and why they do what they do. I appreciated the number of women who were interviewed for this book and I feel confident in asserting that Mike Sacks wouldn't say that women aren't funny. I was introduced to people I had never heard of and got a more intimate view of people who's work I know and love. All in all, a wonderful collection full of poignancy and laughs.

... moreknow if it's an artifact of the fact that I read them a few years apart, but this book felt a lot more targeted to people aspiring to be comedy writers, especially with the advice interstitials between each interview. If you're looking for that advice, I'm sure you'll find it interesting, but I miss the sense of "What makes these famous writers tick; where did they come from?" that I got from the first book. less
