review 1: I totally lucked out when I joined a Facebook Giveaway event and won a book from author Mikhail Lerma. Though I did not win *his* book, he was generous enough to gift me a copy of the first book in his Z Plan series. And oh wow, did I get lucky with that!BLOOD on the SAND was fantastic, and I absolutely believe that the author's time in the military helped bring realism to this book's characters facing an 'unreal' enemy. We become witnesses to a zombie outbreak when they overrun an Allied outpost in Iraq. Our main protagonist is Cale and he can't believe his eyes. He will have to use every ounce of his training to survive, to get out, to flee across the desert. To find a way home.Z PLAN is a trilogy that will certainly rate at the top of my beloved zombie books... morehelf!
review 2: I love zombies, so I was excited to get a chance to review this, especially since it was already on my tbr list.I've often wondered what I would do if the ZA happened while I wasn't home but I never thought about being on the other side of the world. That's what happens to Cale while stationed in Israel. His base is attacked days after hearing about a strand of rabies in Africa. With leadership gone Cale and his best friend Zach along with some others decide its better to risk going AWOL.I like the realism, not everyone survives and they don't all fall to zombies. Some people will not be able to handle the situation and give up. Some people will make bad decisions and some people will be selfish. Cale has to deal with all of this while trying to find a way back to America for his wife and daughter.Trying to get to the sea while dealing with the undead and insurgents proves to be more difficult then expected. Losing everyone along the way leads to survivors guilt and what ifs. Even after getting to a boat the problems never stop.I noticed that a lot of people didn't like how sometimes the POV would jump to someone else but I did. I liked knowing what was going on with the soldiers they left behind or what's someone's finally thoughts were. At one point we're even in a zombies head.I knew this is the first of a series so I expected a cliffhanger but not the one we got. There's just so many twists and turns in this that it keeps you on the edge of your seat.I had two problems with it. One, I could be wrong but I was under the impression that soldiers go by their last names. Now the author is military so he would know more than me but that's just what I always thought. Two, if you're going to reference something get it right, Brian from The Breakfast Club got a F on his project not a B.I was given an ecopy from Story Cartel in exchange for a honest review. less
