review 1: I was a little tentative going into Mindy Kaling's book, because I really, really dislike her character Kelly aka poor in The Office, and I really dislike her character in The Mindy Show (who is basically the same character as Kelly Kapoor), and I really dislike her in This is the End, since she has such a small role she seems a lot like the above two characters. I was moderately surprised to find out that Mindy was actually a writer and producer for The Office, and became a little more impressed with her. Still, I was apprehensive about her book, since I still associate her so closely with Kelly Kapoor. However, I enjoyed this book so much more than I'd expected. Within the first few chapters, I had laughed out loud more than a few times. She's actually a clever and funny... more woman, and I loved her stories. It was a great mix of history, foundation, and anecdotes. Way more impressed than I was expecting to be.
review 2: I read (listened to) this one very fast. Very fun, good easy listen. She does a great job reading her own book (not surprisingly). I like her candor mixed with jokes about herself, about how and who she was. I obviously like the stories about how she didn't have jobs and stuff at first, but it really turns out she had her break quite quickly and early because of her Matt & Ben show, which doesn't fill me with jealousy but rather inspiration. She was good, she was noticed, she made it. It makes her feel real and likable and I dig her. Not as phenomenal as say, Bossypants, but still quite fun and enjoyable. Also: FUCK that stylist who only brought her size 0 clothes to her own photo shoot. What a dick. less
