review 1: This book was just pure fun, plain and simple. Except for the middle towards the end, when it gets scary. And the cliffie ending (which isn’t about the couple at all, but another character and a cave man/cave wolf, which will be the next book). But it’s not really a bad cliff, because you know that there will be a lot of sex in the first few pages of the next book.I loved Ari and Dane. They were both funny as all hell, and snarky and hot. Yes, this book was hot. It was also 90 degrees outside when I read this, and heat stroke can kill, you know…just sayin’. They almost have sex in their animal forms, and considering that she’s a wolf (and a deer!) and he’s a puma, that would truly be interspecies romance. But fortunately they turn human again, and the authoriti... morees need not be contacted. There are two books before this, which are the stories of Ari’s and Dane’s parents. If I paid attention, I would have read them first. Ah well, they’re all stand alones anyway. So here are two issues I have with the book:Her name is Ari. Which is cool, because I have a cousin Ari. Excepts my Ari is a he. But at least she wasn’t named Whisper or Ember or Misery – names you will never, ever see (or Ever for that matter) in real life. But his name is Dane. There are a lot of Danes in books (most are not from Denmark, to clarify). I’ve never met a Dane in real life (the name, not the person from Denmark – I’ve met quite a few of those). I’ve met a lot of people. Now Dane is not a particularly weird name – authors seem to reserve the more bizarre ones for the female MCs. But I wonder – do the authors just sit around for days trying to come up with strange names? Do they have online support groups that offer hints and such? Also – Ari is a wolf…and a deer. Now, besides the fact that her father is a purebred wolf and her mother is human, I have no idea where this ungulate streak comes from (deer, elk and bison are ungulates – trust me – I work in a wolf sanctuary. Ungulates are feasted upon regularly.). But – how can you possibly be predator and prey at the same time? Doesn’t that cause severe psychological issues? Wolves will sometimes chase their tails, like dogs. What happens if their tail is deer? Do they then commit ritualistic self….dinner? Very strange.None of this really impacts upon the book – I just like “listening” to myself write. This book was awesome. You should read it. I will read the first two and the next one. I am hooked.
review 2: Mine. Every PNR fan I know gets giddy goosebumps when they see those four letters italicized on their page, and I'm no exception. I read this book in one day and I loved it. I have to catch up books one and two and see if book four is out. This one book made this series an instant hit with me. I absolutely love stories about mated shifters. This one is terrific with lots of action, heat, and a few tender moments sprinkled in.Right away you get to meet Ari, who is a wolf and deer shifter. How cool is that? But her wolf is predominant. And when we first meet her she is trying to get her cat out of a tree. She loves cats, but for the life of her, she can't keep one as a pet. This whole scene made me giggle. Then Dane comes along, and it is a good thing that Ari lives in a half-breed shifter community, Dane makes sure of that. My giggles stopped and the swoon started! Wooooo, talk about hot!Dane right off the bat had that smart ass edge to him, which I loved. He helps Ari, and informs her that she is his mate and they actually already know eachother. The care in his eyes really endears him to me. You can tell he loves her, and has always loved her. That jaguar has a whole lot of swagger, and I couldn't get enough of him from the first page to the last. Then, as the story goes on and things come to light, other things are set metaphorically on fire between the two of them. This book was awesome in all aspects. I think the idea of hybrid shifters is great, and to pair a wolf with a deer in a woman? Awesome!! And when stuff goes down, and everyone's back is against the wall, the action and drama were exciting. So yep, I'm a fan for sure now. Like I said, I have to catch up on the rest of this series - but I definitely will. I think if you are looking for something hot and exciting, with some great comebacks and strong characters, this is definitely a series to check out. less

This was a fun read. But an a all out war broke out in the middle and seemed really out of place.
