review 1: Furuya Chihiro has had an odd obsession with everything zombie since he was little. Now that he's older, it's to the point that he couldn't care less about human girls, because his dream come true would be a zombie girlfriend! But when Chihiro attempts to reanimate his dead cat, Bub (Babu), a young, wealthy, and beautiful girl named Sanka Rea interferes and ends up making almost all of Chihiro's wishes come true! But all that Rea wants is to be reborn and live the life of a normal girl... It appears that even in death, the wishes of a girl's pure heart can never die!I first starting reading Sankarea... um... anywhere between November of 2010 to November of 2012... HAHAH. I CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING ANYMORE!Anyway, I really liked the essence of the fan translated manga more t... morehan this one... It had a better flow to it. But I don't know, this is good too. I give it 3 1/2 stars, buuut, the scans get 4, hehe. I think I only read up to chapter 12 though. I think I stopped because I got bored with the first two or so pages of the "Mother's... Hand..." chapter and just never got back to it. Heh, Rea sure is adorable no matter what though. And I used to like Ranko, but not now. What happened? Hmph. I just finished the anime not even a month ago, and I must say that, oddly enough, the anime has a lot more detail than the manga so far. Actually, the anime is better so far! How odd is that? I really shouldn't watch an anime and read the manga right after, or vice versa, it messes up my opinion on both. Anywhooo, on to volume two!
review 2: Sanka Rea, on the surface appears to have the perfect life, yet in reality she is completely trapped, and oppressed by her weirdly, overprotective father. When she meets the zombie-loving Chihiro, who is trying to reanimate his dead cat, she sees her chance for freedom. She becomes a zombie. Sankarea is part serious love story and part fanservice with a fair share of comedic moments. While the fanservice is geared towards boys, including some nudity, it doesn't feel as heavy-handed as many other ecchi titles. Thanks to its well-conceived story, and the author's ability to present the female characters as people rather than fanservice objects, this is a series that girls can enjoy too. Sankarea's atmospheric-based art easily flows from the softer looks, through the normal comedic moments, to darker tones. Each type is of the highest quality. While the moral implications, and the problems of zombiefication are initially expressed, they have yet to be fully explored. It is up to Chihiro to take responsibility for this newbie zombie, and to keep her "alive". less
