review 1: I enjoyed the cultural aspects of this novel more than the mystery, which was perhaps more complex than it needed to be. Still, it affords insights into Inuit culture, society, and mindset that I thought were believable and very interesting. The heroine/amateur detective, a half-Inuit woman, is also engaging in ways different from most female detectives with her knowledge of the environment of the Arctic and the qualities of her flawed personality.
review 2: This book made no sense. The plot was convoluted and nonsensical. Why did any of the characters act the way the did? I didn't understand the bad guys' (yes, there were many) motivations. The author obviously visited Alaska and had many of her details right, but it didn't come together. It was as if she
