review 1: Unlike most of Melanie Watt books, "Have I Got a Book for You!" is an ideal choice for reading aloud to groups of children. Chester and Scaredy Squirrel's humour are reliant on the many small details in the illustrations. That sort of thing doesn't play well in a crowd. What's great about this book, is that it has all kinds of little details, but it can also be read without them. It has this "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" thing going on, where the main character breaks the fourth wall and addresses its audience. To make it even more meta, the sales fox is selling the very book you are reading. Needless to say, this really engages kids. As someone works in the kids department at a bookstore, I appreciate that it riffs on selling books and is a great storytime for cr... moreowds.
review 2: "Have I Got a Book for You" is a wonderful book to teach children about voice and advertisements. I really feel that this is a book that you could use with primary, intermediate or high school students. As a read aloud, students can really feel the sense of voice that the main character has, and they can make predictions about what other persuasive techniques he may use to get the audience to buy the book. Great ending too! less
