review 1: This is a sequel, and is a very funny book. This book is aimed at Early Years and Key Stage One. The illustrations and the layout of some of the text are very appealing and engaging. I really liked reading this story to the whole class and seeing their reactions to parts of the book-in particular the part when Chester was acting like a diva and bossing everybody around! It taught the children a valuable lesson and the children realised that this behaviour was unacceptable. The illustrations were marvellous and the association between the character and the author, Melanie Watt, is really clever and is my favourite aspect to the book. The book is about Chester, a cat, who is the star of the show and thinks he is ultra-famous. This fame goes to Chester’s head and consequentl... morey he has a massive ego where he thinks everything is all about him! However Melanie Watt dislikes his behaviour due his diva and bossy ways and calls auditions to replace Chester. Lots of animals dress up like Chester to take his part. Chester dislikes this a lot and hates all the copycats trying to be like him. A funny moment is when he chases one of them-the pig. Chester demands lots of things including red jellybeans and a limousine. Eventually Chester gets these demands-with the outcome him not being a big stage star but an actual star with a star costume dumped on top of him! The illustrations and fonts in the book were appealing and are things that children can utilise to make their writing more creative. I read this book out loud to the whole class and they thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly the ending which they felt was very funny. The class were looking at adjectives and I used Chester for the children to come up with adjectives to describe Chester. The children also learnt that being demanding and rude does not get you want you want-which is a valuable lesson to take from the book. The book is well written and thought out. A good read!
review 2: Yes, Chester is back, with a bigger ego than ever. Mouse is there too, but Chester and Melanie (of Scaredy Squirrel fame) again argue over what Chester really wants to have as “his” story background. It’s as fun as the first book, with different scenarios from each side presented, like Chester the Cave Cat or Chesterdini. They finally agree on one story, but the expectations of Chester are different from Melanie’s. A silly story, but full of laughs. less
