review 1: I'm so happy that I was finally able to read this series! However, at the same time sad because I can't find the 2nd & 3rd book! Which absolutely is a major bummer! Anyway this book practically called my attention because of the book cover, which is absolutely gorgeus~ Well anyway like from other books I've read, Demeter was portrayed to be an overprotective mother who eventually suffocates Persephone with that overprotectiveness she had. I've also wondered why in other books it was portrayed that Persephone was raped, now I know. And frankly enough I love how Hades has so much self-control here & how he liked to please Persephone so much. I just wish that I can read the next two books!
review 2: Lots of research went into this book, which I appreciate. However
... morethere was tons --TONS-- of, what I felt like was, unnecessary explanations of side myths. Lots of random parts about side characters. The entire first half of the book is all about Demeter. We don't get to the actual rape of Persephone until the middle. ("Rape" in the traditional sense of kidnapping.) Then, it ends in the middle of the myth. It just... ends. Okie doke. Also, there's graphic sex throughout the end. Which is fine if that's your thing. But it's not mine and I wasn't prepared. The first part of the book was detailed but not graphic. Then Hades get his hands on Persephone and BAM! gross, ick, bleh. Because, it's also creepy. Not romantic in any way. Just... an old man in lust with a child. Also... why change Kore's name to Kora? The author "explained" her reasoning in the forward, but still... is Kore really that difficult for us to say in our heads? No. Do other characters still mention the fact that her name comes from Kore? Yes. So why not just use Kore, then? Won't be reading the rest. less

Exceptional retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone. Will read sequels for sure.
