review 1: Meh. The story was good to some degree. It was simple and yet well descripted and the flow of the story went well. I actually enjoyed the fact that the author had the inspirartion to use an older character for the female lead. I liked that she was not the typical heroine for this genre. The only real draw backs to this story were that it maybe a bit too simplistic and questionable at the like hood of some of the events. The vagueness as to the fiance who was once Sophie's to now be actually wed to her sister didn't not dawn on me til almost the middle of the book. It was as if the two parties never actually were married the way the sister had so much freedom to do whatever she like (which basical entailed everything out side the home). She did not even bring her husband to... more diner? Odd maybe... Than at the end we actually learn she had a son from the tryst with the stable hand. I actually thought darker things like perhaps she miscarried or gave up the child since she seemed never at home to care for it. Must be lucky I guess. It was not really clear about that until the end. Also the hot and sizzling scenes were kind of short. There were a few good ones but the frequency of them I think made the others a little "eh" in the over all rating for the genre. Then there was the hole no revenge thing at the end. Was turning the ledgers over to Scotland Yard sort of an act of revenge? They could have just burned them and never speak of it again. True they felt that it was the right thing to do to bring him to justice because of all his evilnes, but agian it does seem to me that the burden to expose his crimes seem to elicite revenge in the outcome of revealing those crimes to the Scottland Yard.,Lastly, This is the huge bugger that had me at odds with this story. The ice cubes. Yes I have issue with the ice cube that the buttler was order to get to place on Sophie's eye after being hit by her father. According to what I managed to read online, the first known written occurance for the use of ice cubes was dated back in 1844 almost a little over 40 years for when the author dated this story (1888). Yes I did read that there was in fact factories that produced them and sent them down south but at an absorbant price. For a guy who is only just getting his finacial stability back to readily have ice cubes on hand, probly unlikely. Not to mention that in fact until 1920 (almost another 40 after the date for this story) the first inventions to contain the ice cubes were made. Even then from what I read, it was considered a luxuy to get ice from the delivery guy. So really unless they managed to chip off a chunk of ice from an iceburg during the passing of the ice age and somehow managed to store it deep into an area that was cold enough to provent it from melting (deep in a mountain lets say) I really find that item believable at that time. You can argue on that last part, but over all it was not bad. I rate these stories by the likely hood that I will ever be compelled to pick it up and re-read it over and over again and by that measure, I would not for this story.
review 2: I loved this book!! I found myself smiling throughout almost all of it. I just love a rogue especially a wicked rogue. Quentin & Sophie were so easy to love and their chemistry was so hot I thought my Kindle would start smoking. This book is different from your usual historical romance because Sophie isn't a debutante she is a 41 yr old spinster. Everything was going great and then as the saying goes..Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned..I was not happy with this woman's actions. However I was happy with Quentin and the way he dealt with it all. Sorry I can't give away any spoilers. less

I loved the way the heroin turned the tables on her father and sister for betraying her.
