review 1: Freebie and fast. The overall atmosphere of the Dome and Silicon City was interesting - a bit of a stretch - but interesting. It was very Matrixy. The big bad machine, or in this book, the near monopoly continues to attempt complete control over humanity. But the future seems worse than the past...which is a bit odd when the future is quasi-utopia for current-day dopers. The YA relations was fairly monotonous as it was wishy washy between a quadsome. Damn, two new words in one review. The star of the show, Ima/Cinder/E was actually a bit shallow and annoying. She can change directions on a dime, it seems. Oh, the big 'reveal' at the end - WOW. I read that short sentence a few times as it was from way out in left field; comically so. IDK, the premise was interesting and the... more action was there, but the characters and the editing keep this book at a 2.5.
review 2: I liked the story overall, and I liked the characters; I loved the idea. But there were some noticeable flaws in the writing, and it all felt a bit rushed. There could have been so much more detail and description in this book. It didn't develop as much as it could've. And there were a couple times where I had to go back because I had trouble following what had happened. But it was still original and fun to read, and I want to know what happens next. less
