review 1: It is my first time reading Monica McCarthy highlander book. There are more elaborations than dialogues which for me can get tiring to read. The book was also too cheesy(description of his muscled body was described many times). I found out at the end of the book (Author's note),that there is a little historical truth in her story which is interesting. Also the book involved a lot of emotional conflicts between the two characters. All in all I thought it was an average read. Perhaps this book deserves more than 3 stars but I found storyline a drag,so I will leave it as it is.
review 2: I'm in LA LA land.. I forgot how much I love Monica McCarty's Highlander novels until I picked up her books again. The last book of hers I've read was The Saint and that was awhil
... moree back since I was waiting for the release of The Recruit. So in the mean time while waiting for The Recruit and The Hunter at my local library, I came across book 2 of the Campbell Trilogy. I was so happy because I found book 3 at the same time. So on with the review! First of all, this book had a slow start. I stopped my reading for awhile since I was finishing up with another book at the time but once I got back into, boy did I get back into it! Highland Outlaw is one of my favorites ever. Patrick is so bad ass, I couldn't even begin to describe him. He just is! He's so torn and yet he's so passionately in love with Lizzie. The chemistry between these two is perfect. They complement each other well. Patrick is domineering, dominant, doesn't take no, kill now ask questions later kind of guy. I haven't come across a Highlander this sexy in awhile. And the fact that he's an outlaw is bonus points. He's torn between love and duty, I wish all men these days have what Patrick has. And Lizze, what a perfect female lead to complement Patrick. Her growth from a child to an adult is very much attainable and visible throughout the story. I believed everything about her, from her mannerisms, to her reasoning, to just everything. I couldn't ask for a more perfect Highland book. I think I'm going to end up buying the ebook so I can read this over and over because I was so emotional at the end of the book, I even teared up a bit. I'm not sure I can ever find another author that can compare to Monica McCarty. What makes her series such a hit for me is first and foremost her writing and the history behind her tales. I absolutely adore it. less
