review 1: Great book. A handsome, enormous Scotsman is enough to catch the attention anyway, but both of the main characters are strong and very interesting. I like the fact that the female character is very independent. A terrible misunderstanding separates them, pride keeps them apart for a while - can they get it right? You know they do. That's why we read this kind of book right? It's sexy and has a good ending. The setting is nice too. I liked this entire series.
review 2: Let me tell you, I have read loads of Highland romance novels. I love them. I can't get enough of the brogue. Sincerely, I have a thing about Scottish men. I once dated a Scot soley because he was gorgeous. I couldn't understand a word he said, but it really didn't matter. He was beautiful. B
... moreut I digress. This romance novel was ok. As in all romance novels, we meet the couple, each individually think the other did them wrong. Of course, its more about miscommunication than anything else. And of course, no matter how much each tries to hate the other, their sexual chemistry is off the chain. Here is another novel I endured that just did NOT have enough love making for my taste. Now, I may come off as a fiend, but not so my friend. I just know what I like, and all this 'foreplay'-- what I refer to as the consistant talking about love making, or the constant reminising about the past love making, without actually d-o-i-n-g the love making... it's downright annoying. (Ms. McCarty was lucky that this was a library read.)Duncan sounds like sex on a stick, and to be blunt, Jeannie is a whiney, manipulative, daddy's girl. I respect NO woman who 1.) is willing to let her man die when she discovers that her father has concocded a plot that can kill or mame her man. 2.) lies about who her baby daddy is. (Honestly, if a man actually wants to claim your bastard, you need to role with it.) I was so tired of reading about how they needed to trust one another, blah blah blah... and to make matters worse, by the end of the book, Duncan actually thinks that HE was wrong. Usually I'm on the side of the chick, but not this time. This time, I found NOTHING redeeming about her... except for her hair. I always wanted red hair.I don't know if I will read anymore from this author. She bored me, but a couple characters peaked my interest and now I want to know what happened to them. We shall see... her series is at the very, very bottom of my 'to read' list. less
