review 1: other people's families r not always perfect this follows the story of gracie and her family the templetons who move to australia from england to take up residence in a stately home and give tours at the weekend they set the locals talking and their neighbours - single mother nina and her son tom r even more intrigued slowly their two lives become intertwined - but what will be the consequences? as the past is revealed everybody's lives become unravelled and then tragedy tears them all apart. what will it take to bring them together again? takes a bit o time to get off the ground but stick with it - u have 600 pages to devour! bev p.s. i wonder if nina will ever revel her 'secret'?
review 2: Ich empfand den Roman als gut erzählt und zügig lesbar. Die Charakt... moreere waren mir zwar nicht wirklich nah, weder die Templetons noch die Donovans oder Hope - eine Ausnahme gab es, ich mochte Hillary -, dennoch war ich interessiert, wie sie sich über die Zeit, in welcher der Roman spielt, entwickeln und was ihnen widerfährt. Es gab, wie auf dem Klappentext versprochen, Freundschaften, Affären, Liebesbeziehungen - allerdings fand ich es entgegen dem Klappentext weder als besonders witzig noch warmherzig oder bewegend. Das hängt aber viell. auch damit zusammen, dass mir die Figuren nicht so recht sympathisch wurden. Für mich eine nette Lektüre für zwischendurch. less
