review 1: I set out on a quest. One I've been on before, but had yet to victoriously finish. The quest was to find a published middle grade novel that I actually enjoyed. I think with most genres, it's just a matter of finding the right book. And finally, I think I've found it. DARKBEAST is told in the first person point of view about a twelve-year-old girl who bucks the local religious system and sets out to find herself. The world intrigued me, the premise pulled me in, and I cared about the main character. I'm giving DARKBEAST five stars because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now to find the second book in the series. :)
review 2: I liked it. Kieara and Caw were interesting characters, and the people she met and delt with were believable and likable. I especially enjoyed a
... morell the details of the Travellers and their work. What I did have a problem with was the actual slaying of the darkbeasts as such an integral part of growing up, but with no one seeming to think they needed to prepare the children for the process, both of the killing, and the learning to be responsible for the consequences of your own actions. I didn't quite believe it. But I do want to read the next book, so, you know I did like it. less
