review 1: This book starts on a promising note, but nosedives halfway through never to resurface. I'm not sure where all the shinning reviews came from for this, but I was far, far, far from impressed with the romance and mystery here. Kickass girl takes in 3 dudes w a bat and wipes the floor with them in a remote cabin. Turns out one is a former love interest that rebuffed, embarrassed her as a teen & also happens to be connected to her job. Meanwhile, in the midst of romance and babysitting, someone is leaving dead animals on the door and a dead body in the yard... •Serial killer alert• So, I liked the female MC at first; I mean anyone that kicks ass w a baseball bat gets a thumbs up, right. Well, no! Sadly, she soon becomes a bipolar nempho/Pollyanna. One minute her carna... morel thoughts leave her in a puddle over the {lol} 'bad boy' and the next she's scolding him about blocking off a parking space for her at the expense of another driver. Too extreme personalty shifting for me from goodie two shoes to sex kitten. The supposed bad boy wasn't very appealing. He let his friend call the girl he's supposed to love a "walking vagina", "bitch" and other unsavory names & all he did in response was tell his buddy to cut it out... Over and over. His buddy even put his hands on her and he did nothing! No way would I get hot and bothered over a dude that let his buddy treat me that way... Period! No sex appeal there! The male MC also took teasing to an unsexy level. 75% of the book was him teasing her and leaving her not satiated. Again, just isn't on my sexy radar when a guy is a tool and the author takes good old angst and spins it into Chinese torture. The serial killer mystery? Well, not much. So obvious who was the culprit. Unrealistic responses. Law enforcement wouldn't leave them, much less force them, to stay at the scene of a murder, especially when they're his prime suspects. Law enforcement wouldn't take their vehicles and leave them stranded an hour from town in a crime scene. The children's mom having zero concern for their safety wasn't realistic either. I could go on, but really the bottom line is just skip it:(
review 2: I didn't read the first book in this series which seems to have a different cast of characters. Julie is in charge of watching three kids while their parents are going through a divorce. She has the kids for a month while living in a secluded cabin. Mason has a history with Julie. The writing is good. The pacing is good and the characters are interesting. This book has a standard suspense plot with a lot of creepiness thrown in as the characters are stuck in a cabin with a murderer on the loose. 4 stars. less

I liked the mystery suspense but felt very frustrated with the constant sexual tension.
