review 1: Now is part of a series by Morris Gleitzman. Now has little introduction, and jumps right into the story. Zelda's parents are in Darfur, Africa operating on patients in need. As a result, Zelda lives with her grandfather Felix in Australia. Zelda left her old school and friends in South Melborne, Australia and moved to live with Felix. Felix is a World War II holocaust survivor.During the story, Zelda gets bullied by a girl named Tonya, and other girls, as she is new to the area and school. Zelda and her grandfather Felix have a very special relationship, and over the course of the book, you learn more about Felix's WWII experiences and about a very close friend from his past, named Zelda. The Black Saturday Bushfire occurs within the book, and you read as Zelda, Felix, a... morend their neighbors get very close to experiencing death. I really enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting! I liked the fact that this was the third book in the series, and I could be just as engaged without having read the previous two books. I think this would be a great avenue to use in a unit on World War II and the Holocaust, and for students to understand the long term impacts on individuals who were affected by the Holocaust. Zelda was a very relatable character who had a very special relationship with her grandfather. A variety of students could connect to her on many levels, including students who have been bullied/have been a bully, experience tragedy, have parents who travel, or a grandparent who has experienced a historical event. I really liked this book, and would recommend it. I really want to read the others in the series!
review 2: TITLE: NowAUTHOR: Morris GlietzmanPUBLISHED IN: 2010BOOK DESCRIPTION: The book, Now, is the third book in a four book series. The first two books in the series, Once and Then, are from the point of view of a young boy while World War II is going on around him. The third book Now is about a girl called Zelda and her grandfather, Felix. Her and her grandfather are very close and enjoy spending long days together. When tragedy strikes in their town, it only brings them closer to one another as they fight to get through it. Those who have read the first two books of this series might find the third book a little bit off-topic at the start but you will understand how they connect early into the book. Now is a great read!MY OPINION: I did really enjoy the book Now but it still wasn't one of my favorite books in the series. Now is the odd one out in the four book series as it has a slight difference from the other three books but it is still a good read. This story makes you wonder about interesting things and still keeps you hooked into the book. I would recommend this book for kids/teens aged between 10 and 18 as it is a bit less advanced than the other three books in this series. You don’t have to read Once and Then before you read now but I think it would be best to.RATING: I rated this book 4 stars out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the book but it's not my favorite style of book. It was a bit different than how I expected it to be. I still think you should read it though! less
