review 1: I must be in the minority here, but I really didn't like this book. I absolutely loved The Crown, so I was really excited to see that the author had written a followup. Unfortunately, there is a huge drop in quality from the previous book to this one. The style is very different. Joanna works mostly alone here, instead of collaborating with Brother Edmund to solve an intriguing and dangerous mystery. That collaboration was one of the things I liked best about the first book. The end leaves quite a few loose ends, which makes this book feel like just a stepping stone to the next one. Very unsatisying overall.
review 2: Enjoyed it just as much the first! As before, The Chalice was a real page turner. All of the parts coming into play towards the end with
... morethe prophecy and the endless characters involved with it, simply a great revelation for the ending. I was a bit upset about the way it ended for certain characters, but felt it was necessary anyway. Joanna is just wonderful and a joy to follow. I would love it if Bilyeau decided to add another book in the series! less

Riveting story...I love historical fiction, especially 16th century.

Loved it. Only regret is that I didn't read The Crown first.
