review 1: Fleeing an abusive husband in Savannah, Bea Dot Ferguson heads to stay with a cousin in Pineview, Georgia. But this is 1918, and Spanish Flu is bringing the small town to its knees. Bea Dot meets Will Dunaway, a war vet trying to help the citizens combat the flu. The two join forces to try to defeat both Bea Dot’s violent husband, but a pandemic, the likes of which the world has not seen before or since.
review 2: Liked the story very much, but there was an issue of compensation which I found very annoying. The fact that Lola was literally trapped into the house with all of those sick and dying people, many of them owing their lives to her, and at the end she was not given any type of compensation, really pissed me off. Her own husband and family members were
... more sick and dying also. As Will pointed out, it was true that the doctor and nurses also worked day in and out without compensation. However when the epidemic was over they had careers and were better off than she was. In addition, no of them had to work alone without supplies. While I loved what Bea Dot decided to do with her inheritence, it would have been great if she had made a "gift" directly to Lola. As a matter of fact, many of the town people should have compensated her in some way. This made me really angry. less

Such a surprise this book was. I didn't expect to enjoy it nearly as much as I did.
