review 1: This book was so well written and held my attention as well as a present day novel. If they were to make a movie based on Queen Joanna's life, no one would think it possible. It was great to get so many insights into mideval society and to learn about this great female monarch. She is a great example of "history is written by the victors" as so little has been written about her and so many were happy to forget her. I'm thankful Ms. Goldstone has brought her back to life.

I did learn about a time period I knew very little about, the book was very dry and hard to read.
