review 1: This book was so well written and held my attention as well as a present day novel. If they were to make a movie based on Queen Joanna's life, no one would think it possible. It was great to get so many insights into mideval society and to learn about this great female monarch. She is a great example of "history is written by the victors" as so little has been written about her and so many were happy to forget her. I'm thankful Ms. Goldstone has brought her back to life.
review 2: A very satisfying scholarly book, at first somewhat dry, due to the author's meticulous care. As the fascinating, little-known story gains momentum, the text becomes more infused with the writer's passion. By the end of the account, I was literally on the edge of my reading chair, e... morenraged as it became clear that this amazing Queen was soon to be assassinated. My thanks to this author for uncovering Joanna, a superb ruler of impeccable character. Let us hope that this biography will justify the Lady Queen and that she may finally rest content with a marker on her grave, and her name and works restored. To Ms. Goldstone: a mighty deed. less
