review 1: As I read this, I kept changing back and forth between a 3-star and a 4-star rating. But since it made me smile throughout, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, rate it 3.5 stars and round up. Interestingly, though, I really have no idea what the title means or what it refers to. There is one connection to shoes in the second story (the main character is a shoe designer), but there's no mention beyond a brief discussion about a new design concept. Odd. This book is actually a combination of 2 novellas. I'm very glad I didn't read the summary blurb beforehand because it really described way too much--I was totally surprised at the results in the first story and would have hated to be forewarned. The first book was about a woman in love with her gorgeous nei... moreghbor, but he thinks of her as his best friend. When a genie appears, Aggie accidentally wishes herself into another spot in his life, but it doesn't work out quite how she planned it. In the second story, we meet a quiet and unassuming (but successful) shoe designer who is being taken advantage of by a scheming boss. When the company is bought out, jobs are vulnerable and a lot of maneuvering is being done. Both stories were funny, although there were so many of them that it was almost overdone. The love story in the first book was believable, but the second was totally sudden, without any sort of lead-in at all. Still, the characters were pleasant and I was pleased with the happily-ever-after endings.
review 2: You can't go wrong with fairy tails for grown ups. Natasha Dean's Sneakers, Sandals and Stilettoes was a fun filled adventure. I loved that it was a two for one, two stories in one book. The Genie's curse starts you off where you meet Aggie and Dillon. Aggie and Dillon are neighbors and friends but Aggie dreams of being in Dillon's arms. When Aggie comes upon an old tea pot that was so much more then it appeared to be, being in Dillon's arms becomes a hilarious adventure that had me laughing until my sides hurt. Shoe-in for love introduces Nessie and Leo. Nessie's whole life is about her job and when she finds out there is going to be a new boss it sends her into a panic. Leo is fascinated by Nessie and their strange incounters. Workplace antics, jealousy, attraction and the 80's combine to give you a fun story that kept me turning the pages until the story was done. Both stories had great characters that were easy to relate to. The writing was so well done I felt like I could be reading a story of my next door neighbor or the sales lady at the department store. The combination of humor and romance had me burning through the pages in no time. Score one for Natasha Dean she hit a bulls eye with Sneakers, Sandals and Stilettoes. I give it 4.5 out 5 less
