review 1: This book took me some time to get through - slow and dry to me in areas, but it was really sweet and I would recommend reading it. The whole premise of being dislocated - and having to assimilate to a new life, culture, country - is just unfair to people. I love Sadie and Mr. Rosenblum... he is a true gentleman and his heart/soul move through different phases in the story. Sadie was my favorite character, other than Curtis, because of how powerfully strong she felt connections to her past and her family. The whole idea of being able to cook a food and the people who eat it will feel the emotions of person who made it or whatever the emotions are the recipe targeted - is enchanting to me. Their marriage goes through a lot, but is blessed in the end - great love story, ... morefamily story, story about Jews trying to start over, and friendship -
review 2: This book was amazing! It was hard to tell where the book was going (I go along for the ride, not trying to hard to predict where the book will go)- but I loved the journey. Natasha Solomons writes such wonderful characters- I loved getting to know all the characters of Dorset! I wish Jack had been a real person! I was also really touched by the environmental themes towards the end. I'd definitely recommend it. less

Was a lovely book, well-written with an eccentric but believable character.
