review 1: One Friday night at dinner, out of desperation to have some sort of non-chaotic meal, I grabbed this book and started reading the trivia out loud. "What's the hottest measured temperature on Earth?" "How many gallons of water does it take to make a pair of jeans?" "How many strands of hair do people lose a day?" It was great! Love the colorful pictures, the wide variety of topics covered, the quality of the binding, and the fact that we got it at the library.
review 2: National Geographic Kids. (2012). National Geographic Kids Almanac 2013. (2nd ed.). Washington D.C.: National Geographic Society.Citation by: Margie FindleyType of Reference: AlmanacCall Number: J 031.02 NatiDescription: A well-illustrated almanac for kids with the latest information on topics su
... morech as animals, culture, geography, the environment, history, and science.Relevance and Relationship: The cost at most stores is under $10.00. It is an easy purchase for a SLMC each year because it is full of the latest information on a range of topics which directly relate to the curriculum. The content is exceptional in relation to others in the same category. The 2012 edition was #3 on the New York Bestselling list. One interesting feature is the smart phone scan for further information. It is very much up to date with technology applications as well. Purpose: This will allow children to see where we are headed in 2013. It gives them a chance to explore a diverse collection of topics. This is not gender specific as many of the sports related almanacs tend to be. It is another form of attracting students to read reference materials. Validity: National Geographic is a global publisher known for offering high quality, informative materials. Since it is a yearly publication, the information will be up to date.Format: This paperback almanac is well illustrated with text boxes full of information.Arrangement and Presentation: The 352 almanac includes chapters on amazing animals, going green, geography rocks, super science, wonders of nature, awesome adventures, culture connection, history happens, and a mini joke book. Diversity: A diverse selection of categories cater to a variety of interests and multiple cultures and differences of other items are described.Professional Review: McGuire, B. (2011).
