review 1: Not a sequel to the Cormac series but set in the same universe and following closely after the events depicted in the Cormac series.This book provides some closure to some of the side characters that appeared in the Cormac series as well as to the extinction of the Atheter, one of the predecessor races who fell victim to the Jain technology trap. Great addition to the Polity universe as it fleshes out what was only a minor side story in the cormac series and gives it some depth and shows that many other events were taking place at or near the same time which the Polity ruling intelligences had to juggle with.

... moreorporated into the book in the last few pages. This was hard for me t understand at the beginning and finally an "aha" moment toward the end when things were finally put together. I'll probably try one more of his books, but if they are all like this I won't read anymore. less
