review 1: Adorable. I love Zoomer. The pictures are great. And his adventures in this are fun. This is a perfect addition for my winter theme because it has a twist the others don't, and I think the kids will really love it. It also fits because we haven't been as cold and snowy as we've been the previous 7 weeks....1/22/14: I think this was the favorite of the snow/winter theme today. I did save it for last because I guessed that. They loved the pictures. They loved that he did all that fun stuff with snow, on a summer day. They knew their seasons when I asked. I had them tell me what snow creations he made, and then what animals he was having hot chocolate with. It was great. And even the ending which slows a little they loved because the pictures were so cute and... more fun.
review 2: Zoomer's Summer Snowstorm is about a young pup named Zoomer who waltzes around in the summer heat. He begs for a snow cone and his mom allows him to make one, but only if he cleans up his mess when he's done! While searching the cupboards for snow cone flavors, Zoomer's snow cone machine goes overboard, producing mounds and mounds of snow. Rather than throw it all away, Zoomer opens the window and creates a summer snowstorm, which disrupts his brothers' baseball practice. While Zoomer zips this way and that in his snow created animations, his brothers become jealous of the fun he embarks on. Eventually, they let their kid spirits give way, and they join Zoomer in his adventures. When Zoomer's parents come home and ask him what he'd like for dinner, he suggests chili because it's "such a cold day." Looking outside, his mother and father are shocked to see the snow, but nonetheless agree that chili is for dinner! This book is appropriate for audiences pre-K to 3rd grade. All of the students would be drawn to the imagination of snow creations and Zoomer's adventures. The well-crafted illustrations that fall off the page also intrigue students to take a closer look at the book. I would implement this book in the last few days of school, right before summer breaks out! I would talk about all of the fun activities there are to do over summer, and it would be used as a sort of "farewell"/ "see you next year" book. With my older students, I would use some of the vocabulary as part of a language arts lesson: defining words and using them in sentences. Then, I would have my students write a farewell later to me describing what their best summer vacation will include. less
