Born on this day in Florence, Alabama, Sam Phillips, founder of Sun Records, the first label of Elvis Presley’s recordings. Phillips will record Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Ike Turner, B.B. King and Jerry Lee Lewis, among others. Actor Dallas Roberts portrays Phillips in the 2005 movie Walk the Line. Here’s a clip:
