review 1: I read this in preparation for a trip to the British Museum and I am glad I did. The book was informative, intriguing, and prepared me for some of the objects I will see on my trip. Unfortunately I also found some parts disagreeable. I am flummoxed by the fact that the author can unquestioningly say that evolution began in Africa and that the African race is most closely related to primates. I have never heard anything so revoltingly racist in all my life. The fact is God created man in his image and although people all look different we are all God's. I refuse to believe this because these are the ideas that promote racism and hate throughout the world today. This is the part of evolution I just don't understand. How can no one be calling these ideas out? I found the idea... more of telling a history of something through objects intriguing and would like to use the idea as a writing prompt in my classroom this coming year.
review 2: This is my second time reading this wonderful history of the world as told through 100 objects in the British Museum. It is a spectacular telling of our shared history through things. My favorite part is the focus on a single history of humankind. Despite our many differences we are all part of a shared history, I think the world would be a better place if we all focused more on our many similarities rather than our differences. Get this book, or even better get the audiobook! This story was originally told as 30 minute daily radio broadcasts on the BBC over the course of a 20 week period. less

Ok, so technically I listened to the podcasts, but I thought they were awesome.
