review 1: This is by far the most addictive autobiography I have read. Neil Patrick Harris describes his life from his childhood to present day, taking anecdotes and combining different events to create stories. This autobiography is cleverly written to keep the reader's attention because it's where you choose how you want to control the author's life. For example, if you would like to be a magician, flip to page 67, and if you want to get married, flip to page 148. This is a fun way of taking the reader through the journey of Neil's life. Neil makes up stories as well, and if you choose the page number incorrectly, you die. For example, the first time I read it, I (Neil) was distracted in the middle of a magic trick and died. Neil wrote this entire book in second person, which enha... morences the interaction between the reader and the author. I prefer this type of book because it keeps the reader involved in the novel, which is why it was difficult to put the book down (it's funny because he included a page that demonstrates how to do a levitation trick). Each death scene is written humorously, and there are also photos from his life. I would not mind rereading this book a thousand times.
review 2: The title to this book is no joke - Neil Patrick Harris actually wrote his autobiography in Choose Your Own Adventure format. This made the book a bit distracting, especially at first, both because it is written in the second person, and because it is written in a non-linear fashion, and especially on an e-reader, it is not easy to go back to the page you were previously on once you have selected a "choice." I therefore ended up mostly reading the book in order, which worked well enough. Nonetheless, it was a very engaging read, and Neil Patrick Harris comes across as a very likeable, genuine, and interesting person. I probably would have preferred a slightly more conventional format, but I certainly enjoyed reading it. 3.75 stars, rounding up to 4. less
