review 1: NI-NI Simone’s purpose in writing her book, Shortie Like Mine, is to let her audience know that they should always love themselves for who they are, and never try to change for others.Shortie Like Mine makes you think about your own life, and also makes you question your own friendships.Many times it is hard to let friendships go but, sometimes you have to do what’s best for you no matter what consequence it may cause you. Shortie Like Mine is truly inspirational.It captures your attention and pulls your heart string and makes you wants to read more about the characters. Shortie Like Mine is well written. The story is very easy to read, but it was written in an extensive vocabulary way. The author provides insightful question in a clear way. For example, the main c... moreharacter’s cousin ask them a question “fat mama and Toi, is ya dead? Answer me! Let cousin Shake know if ya dead so I’ll know what to tell y’all ain’t up yet. Po’ mama, out there workin’ the graveyard short at the phone company and y’all around here makin’ ticks of yourselves” (NI-NI Simone 14). NI-NI Simone has a way of making her point clear in a creative way. This book was incredibly captivating. This book teaches you to always go with your heart and not what other people tell you, because at the end you’re the one who has to deal with the outcome for the rest of your life. My best friend relate to the main character called Seven. She sometimes feels like her body is ugly, but reading this book help me realize that even though she is thick, she don’t have to change her body or hate herself for anyone. It’s because she have somebody that likes her body for the way it is. I find this book very dramatic because it about things that happen in teen life and in high school. The greatest strength of the book, NI-NI Simone, is it strong characterization and colorful contemporary language. The main character’s mom is mad at them because, Toi is not at home when she came from work. Seven said, “ma, can’t we just call her and tell her to come home?” (NI-NI Simone 57). The weakness of this book is it ending. It is absolutely one of the best books that I have ever come across with and also make me laugh out loud. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about drama, gossip, and fake friendships.
review 2: It's times like this where I really wish we could give stars in different categories. In the case of this book, I thought it was horrible, yet I enjoyed reading it. The message is right, but the funky fire grammar-gosh. I can't really extensively review because the book lacks substance. Nonetheless I enjoyed it. I'd read it again, and I continue to read her books. This is probably one of the most counterproductive reviews ever. Sorry. less
