An Upstate New York Mafia Tale
review 1: Protagonist Alex Vaughn is an undercover Buffalo, New York police officer. His best friend and clandestine coworker is gunned down. Alex vows to find the person responsible, and extract vengence. Rafael is a psychopath hit man, who killed his partner. Finding Rafael involves going rogue, returning to his former assignment. He has a lead, It's a black Russian cigarette that he found next to his friend's body. As the plot thickens, Alex seeks redemption, including unifying his little family. Rafael doesn't have family to worry about, but his life gets complicated as he becomes an expendable pawn in a war between rival crime gangs for control of drug trade and related criminal enterprises. This isn't a great book, but it's an easy read, and the glimpses into th... moree inner workings of both criminal organizations and corrupt cops are realistic and hold your interest. 4 stars.
review 2: "Ryan was still grinning and he muttered something about 'lucky bastard', as he rubbed out his cigarette out on the brick wall of the station." Although this quote comes 87% into it, the entire story is riddled with distracting sentences like this. Two stars because I finished it.It is probably unhelpful to give a book 2 stars that everyone else has been rating so highly, quote one blatantly horrible typo, and then not give any further explanation, but there you have it. Moving on, hopefully to something more engaging and less predictable. less

Dark, sexy and thrilling. Two well developed and thoroughly engaging characters to follow.

Unpredictable mobster book. It leaves you hanging for a sequel at the end.
