review 1: Received as an ARC via my employer Barnes & Noble. Started 11-11-14. Finished 11-15-14. Not as gruesome as Mr. Cutter's first book The Troop, but certainly plays on your fears just as well. The dark, enclosed spaces, disease, eight miles down under water, hallucinations (or Not), mind tricks, dysfunctional family life, experiments gone wrong, all that and more to keep you reading faster as you get toward the end. Starts off as a search for a cure for an Alzheimer's-like disease that's killing millions, and then goes seriously wrong.
review 2: I'm going to admit that I haven't read this book yet since it doesn't come out until January. However, I've read the premise and a lot of early reviews and I would like to say that Nick Cutter, a.k.a. Craig Davidson, seem
... mores to have read my short story that I published on the Amazon Kindle store over a year ago and used my idea to make a whole novel. My name is Lane Bergeron. The story I'm referring to is The Man Who Couldn't Forget, which I have seen that people have read on this site. My story is about an unknown strain of dementia that has plagued the world making people forget how to live. The first part of the synopsis of the The Deep is , "A strange plague called the ’Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys…then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily…and there is no cure." Hmm. This sure sounds familiar, doesn't it? If you've read my story, you'll notice that when I'm describing my plague, I even mention that people forget the small things like where they left their keys or how to drive. Not only are the plots similar, the main character of Cutter's story has a dog he calls LB. My own initials? Sure, it could be coincidence, but I'm not thinking so. I'm very offended that someone, especially a prominent author, would so blatantly plagiarize and think no one would notice. It also bothers me that these early reviews are praising him on his "original" idea, when clearly it is not. I realize that my story is the only thing I have published so far, but that is not an excuse to steal. Shame on you Mr. Davidson. less

Surface scary, not bone level scary. But I do NOT want to live under the sea.

Second horror novel by Nick Cutter, and equally as disturbing as his first.
