review 1: This book is crazy! The main character who goes by the moniker Uncle Lono is one funny guy! The story is based on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but with a Lovecraft mythos twist. If you've read any of his work then you'll recognize alot of the references to the Lovecraft universse. The story is sometimes hard to follow with how Lono narrates it but that's because he's mostly crazed out on mushrooms from Yuggoth!! Read it for the fun and weirdness factor. The Age of R'yleh is upon us. Oh yeah, Nixon is in cohorts with the tentacled faced on himself, dun dun dun.
review 2: The best piece of Hunter Thompson/H. P. Lovecraft pastiche I have read in a long time. They really have captured the good Doctor's style and and the atmosphere of Miskatonic County at the time... more of Nixon's 1972 campaign. Hint, nothing much has really changed. Hidden in the hilarity is some really cogent political satire/commentary. If you think both Thompson and Lovecraft are funny you may well enjoy this. less
