review 1: I have had this sitting on my kindle for months and have no idea why I didn't read this sooner!Amelia (Amy) has had the shittiest upbringing. Her mother is an alcoholic, her father is a controlling high powered lawyer and treats Amy like she is scum on the bottom of his shoe. She is at the end of her high school years, turning 19 and planning the rest of her future, which includes college. After a night out with her friend drinking, Amy starts to dabble in things she should probably stay away from. In the beginning it's a bit of fun, a way to escape her shitty homelife. One night it goes too far and she is lucky to be alive. Well she doesn't think so. She thought it would finally give her an escape from life. The doctor that saves her, Richard, is quite young and cute.... more He is very concerned about her and decides to keep an eye on her even after she is discharged. He senses her fear about her father and has this need to make sure she is okay. After yet another confrontation with her father Amy finds herself out on the street with nowhere to go. Richard finds her and takes her in.Richard is a really sweet guy who genuinely cares about Amy and wants to make her life better. He does have demons in his past that he is reminded of via Amy but it's not the main reason why he wants to help her. This is a wonderful story not just about Richard trying to 'save' Amy but it is also about how she saves him. Amy brings so much joy and happiness to Richard's life too so I guess in a way they are saving each other.
review 2: This was a freebie from Amazon.com. I really just couldn't connect with the characters at all. Amy was whiny and constantly in martyrdom and so was Richard. Every time he cried - which seemed to be a fair amount for a hottie with really no problems at a - he just turned me off. I'm actually amazed he didn't cry after sex. The writing wasn't of great quality, I think the author missed the boat on where to stick in swear words and how to put on paper how a person reacts facially to something. It felt very fabricated and unreal in a subject that is meant to make you feel. But! I think this is a fabulous starting point for a fledgling author, from here the only way is up. less
