review 1: I actually really enjoyed this book. I didn't think I would at the beginning as I couldn't see where the haunting set in, but from about half way through I couldn't put it down! There were several things that drove me mad - if it had been me I think I would have done anything to get away (that's coz I'm stupid and impatient) rather than hang around in the bothy too long. I also couldn't understand why no one had sent a helicopter out for them. But on the whole I enjoyed it.
review 2: I enjoyed this book and don't really understand why so many other readers disliked it so much. I thought the love/hate relationship between Susie and her husband was convincing. I have known couples like this although with not such extreme consequences. Many couples remain in abusi... moreve relationships. The story itself was spooky but not scary. I loved the romantic notion of Susie idealising and unable to let go of her first love. I thought the narrative was well paced until the ending which was unnecessarily drawn out. Towards the end I wondered whether the couple were experiencing hallucinations from the leaves they were eating as well as being under the influence of the supernatural forces of the bothy. less
