review 1: Georgia makes a huge mistake by proposing to her boyfriend live on a St. Valentine's Day radio show in London. If he accepts the wedding will be financed by the show - he declines. Sadder and wiser, she flees the scene. But she's still under contract to the show.Zander, the radio station manager, runs marathons for a sense of challenge. He suggests a way for the show to get value and Georgia to save face. For the next year, the practical plant expert at Kew Gardens will be financed and interviewed as she tries courses and adventures and learns to rebuild her life. Zander has luxury cars and a large home in Hampstead Heath, but agrees to accompany Georgia on her evening courses. The cookery course is pretentious and fawning, so Zander takes Georgia to help in a busy restaura... morent kitchen instead, and a sense of trust begins to build between them. The contrast between Georgia's fern-filled apartment and Zander's unlived-in house and garden makes the executive really think differently about the girl, and when she swaps a break in Ibiza for a balloon flight in Cappadocia, Turkey, Zander finds himself falling for her. But Georgia has no intention of gaining another boyfriend - she's made that mistake already! At least Georgia found out before wasting several years waiting for a man to propose. She would not have got out and tried so many great activities if she and a dutiful boyfriend were sitting in saving up for a wedding, so the year of excitement has a serious message. Author Nikki Logan enjoys nature and weaves gardens, orchid houses and forests into the tale, as opposed to a concrete cityscape. I could not quite believe the contract or that Zander got so easily talked into being the sole interviewer of the girl trying courses. But there had to be some vehicle for the romance to start. Nice to see a tale set in London.
review 2: Alright, so starts my reading of the new line of books from Harlequin Kiss. To date, I’ve read two of the titles from Harlequin Kiss and I have to say that even though these books are pretty short, they don’t read like short stories. They read like full length stories with all of the emotions and everything packed in.This story follows Georgia and Zander as they go from class to class, from country to country and fall in love. Georgia proposes to her boyfriend Daniel on air as part of a Valentine’s day promotion that Zander is producing for his radio station and when her boyfriend rejects her proposal, Georgia is devasted…and humiliated. After Georgia walks out of the radio station, she plans to hide in her lab and work for the next two years until everything blows over. She plans to work at night and over the weekend so that she wouldn’t have to see anyone or talk to anyone outside of her best friend, who just happens to be Daniel’s sister. When she hears from Zander Rush, the producer of the radio station that she foolishly got swept along in, her initial instinct is to run far away from any offer he has but of course that doesn’t happen. She signs up for a year of Georgia with the money that they would have used on her wedding. She signs up for cooking classes, salsa classes and Zander’s station covers the charges of all of this because they’re tagging along on Georgia’s new adventures to find herself, to find a new happiness and reporting on them on the station. This was a quick read, one that I enjoyed. I liked getting to know both characters and I liked watching them grow closer together through their shared experiences in the classes and the struggle to keep things professional came off real and overall, this was a good story. I will definitely keep my eye out on more books by Nikki Logan. less
