review 2: I liked it, but I didn't find it mesmerizing or anything. It's neither too easy, nor too difficult
... more to read.I appreciated the metaphors and the irony, the language is beautiful, and the subtle hidden messages are noteworthy, I have studied it thorouhgly now and I have to say I have found it a little too pretentious for my liking.I am not a very religious person, meaning, I am not a religious person, period, and António Vieira, being a priest and all, was all over the place about the good and the evil and God this and God that - sure, the critique was good, I mean, the Human race is always a good target for criticism and mockery, the best creatures to be ridiculed. But God's constant invocations were a turn off to me. Yet, I must keep in mind that this is a homily, so what could I expect? less
