review 1: A promising historical fiction with mysterious gargoyles, avenging angels, and a secret society. Throw in twin brother and sister getting mixed up in this new world and a fun adventure begins. This was a fun story to read, though character development wanes in favor of plot and for many fastidious descriptions of shirtless male characters. So if you are looking for a beach read and don't mind overlooking some writing flaws, give this book a whirl.
review 2: Not at all impressed. I liked the gargoyle aspect. It's something you don't see too often, but it was never fully explained why they can't be with humans "intimately." As if any YA novel would venture past a kiss. There wasn't nearly enough romance or intrigue in this book for me, the love triangle was extre... moremely weak, and the fight scene or main conflict seemed to drag on forever. I really had to force myself to finish this book. less
