review 1: Now I'm lead to believe this is a modernised YA version of a book called Rebecca, yes? I haven't read that book, nor did I know it existed until I finished New Girl. Therefor, the following review is based purely on New Girl as a stand alone. Also, it contains mild spoilers. Becca Becca Becca... I don't know whether to feel sorry for her or hate her. She was so self absorbed at the start of this book that I just couldn't like her. I was annoyed that everyone compared this new girl to her even though the new girl had no idea who she was. Also, who leaves someone's belongings in their room when someone else is about to move in to it? Seriously. And is there only like 8 people in this school? Why was she approached by EVERYONE Becca was close with? It makes it hard for her no... moret to be exactly like Becca. And I thought I liked Dana (this is the second time I've read this book, it's been a few years though) but she was so mean to the new girl and so naive and completely ignorant to the fact that Becca was just an insecure girl with the need to rule everyone around her. The only people I really liked we're Blake and Cam. I thought Max was a bit of a prick at the start, but he grew on me. He saw through Becca and her need to be in the spot light. What confused me was why he fought with Johnny even after him and Becca were long over. But I don't know, maybe I missed something... I liked that he also saw the new girl as her own person and not Becca's shadow. Max became this real heart throb of a character towards the end, I would have liked to see that side of him sooner but I'm glad I got to see it at all.A lot of the characters are kind of.... Fucked up? There's so many weird love triangles and webs of lies that made it both hard to believe AND more realistic. I got through this book in a day though... I couldn't seem to put it down. It's set over one year and it isn't so fast paced that it seems unbelievable for all this drama to happen, yet it still manages to be a real page turner. There's always something happening, and I liked that. I think this book had a nice resolving ending but it still left enough unanswered to make me think about the book after I finished it.
review 2: I give this 3.5 This book surprised me, although the description on the book intrigued me as I started to read I thought this would not translate well but I enjoyed it in the end. This book to wrote from 'Becca' and 'Me' view point so there is a lot of present and pass which I thought worked really well for this story and helped it flow well.Unfortunately I though at first I could pass this on to my Niece's who are 11 and 13 but this is a little too dark and involves sex, drugs, rapes etc and therefore I would not recommended this to anyone who is not ready to read about these topics.I ave heard that this book is compared to Rebecca which I have yet to read so I am sure if you enjoyed this you would enjoy Rebecca tooThe only thing (that I can think of atm) that I found to be really convenient is that Becca went missing a year ago but was found by the end of the year...few that was good timing!! less
