review 1: This might be the best, creepiest book I’ve read all year, and I read a lot! The world is in a state of chaos with everyones worst nightmares coming true. The nymph virus has practically wiped out humanity, with mutated women attacking and killing their own families and loved ones. Men are helpless against it, but for some reason Eve isn’t affected. The writing is super descriptive and really fluid. The conversations sounded really natural and the book is fast paced and grabs you by the throat and never lets go. Be prepared to be shocked, horrified, disgusted, and ultimately mesmerized. It’s a long book but totally worth it. There are some steeeammy parts that made me swoon, and I’d whole-heartedly recommend this book for anyone who wants an intelligent read with ... morea strong heroine who overcomes almost insurmountable odds in the most nightmarish of circumstances. The next 2 novels in the trilogy are on my TBR list now. Highly recommend.
review 2: "Dead of Eve” is the first book I’ve read by Pam Goodwin but I guarantee it will not be the last! I love discovering new talent and Ms. Godwin has it in spades! This book will definitely stand out from the crowd as being exceptional in terms of editing and near-flawless writing. She writes like a seasoned pro and pulls the reader into the action right from the beginning. I appreciated the skilled nuance in which Ms. Godwin “showed” us the world-building instead of just “told”/info-dumped a bunch of backstory the way so many authors seem to do. She is a confident writer and it shows. This book is definitely not for the kiddos or the squeamish. It is very real, very graphic, and depicts a horrific reality that is part post-apocalyptic, part science-fiction, part thriller, part drama… many layers of complexity that will keep the reader eagerly engaged until the end. I think this book would actually make a terrific movie and I can’t wait to read the next one! less
