review 1: This book is so good that I couldn't put it down! It drew me in right from the beginning, with a fast paced plot that kept me hooked. I loved the Wyoming setting, and the wonderful characters who found a place in my heart. Definitely a book I will be adding to my favorites shelf.Slade Donovan is a hardworking cowboy, who had a rough childhood and is determined to right a wrong. He is decisive and compassionate, always on the lookout for his younger brother, Buck. Mariah has a way with stray cats, as well as stray people. She is sensitive to Buck's shyness but never hesitates to come to his defense. Mariah was my favorite character, I loved how she didn't despair but made the best of every situation, reaching out to others and not closing herself off to others.I also loved ... moreMariah's grandmother, who was not only a fun character, but often a sage voice of wisdom. I loved this book from the very first page to the last one, it does exactly what a western historical romance should do. It swept me back in time, with a hero and heroine that I could empathize with and cheer for all the way. It is superbly written in a style that flows and engages with a well developed cast of characters. I loved everything about this book, and I could not recommend it more. I've added it to my top ten favorite books of all time list :DDisclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. review 2: REVIEW:Setting: Wyoming Territory, 1882. After her father died, Mariah Malone, at the young age of 23 is working her father's ranch and trying to make it work. She also has the huge responsibility of taking care of her blind sister, Amanda and her elderly grandmother. To top that off she is trying to evade the local dandy's marriage proposal. She has enough, with trying to make it on the ranch without having this "dandy" constantly after her about getting married. In walks Slade Donovan, tall, dark and one hunk of a cowboy. He has something to prove to Mariah that isn't going to help her face all she is dealing with. Slade has proof that Mariah's father had shot and left for dead a man, being Slade's father, and stole some precious gold. It also seems that the mine where the stolen gold came from was his father's. Since Mariah's father had used the stolen gold to buy the ranch, Slade wants the land and the ranch. Mariah agrees to sign the ranch over to Slade, trying to save the family name. Buck, Slade's brother convinces Slade to let Mariah and her grandmother to stay at the ranch for a while. We have a woman who believes in God and a man who has lost his faith. As Slade and Mariah work together to run the ranch, they are becoming more adjusted to each other. Is love in the works? Will they be able to admit to each other that they love each other? Can they forgive and put the past aside? As Mariah holds on to her faith, Slade fights it every inch of the way. He knows he loves her but won't let go of the pride that is holding him back. I would recommend this book to anyone. It is easy to read and follow and may make you reflect on forgiveness and letting go. Also trusting in God to lead you in the right direction if you only listen. The book held your attention and didn't weight you down. It was like a old west life that you could find yourself easily fitting in. You wanted to reach out sometimes and just shake Slade and tell him to wake up, but you keep turning the pages to find out what will happen next. Will there be a sequel where we learn a little more about Buck and the other characters? I hope so.If you love good ole' western love stories, here's the one for you. It not only gives you a good love story but much more.I was given a complimentary copy of CLAIMING MARIAH by Pam Hillman from Litfuse Publicity Group for my honest view. No other compensation took place.I felt the book brought out a few lessons in a subtle way. The author shows how two very different people can work together and through all the problems to find the path to love.I would give this book 4 FENCE POSTS. less
