review 1: I mainly wanted to read this because of the connection with roller derby; I'm not too fussed about books about 30-something women and their relationships, so my rating should be taken as a 'I don't generally like this kind of book'.That said, the roller derby part was okay. There were certain rules that I found infuriating (the jammer in the lead is the lead jammer?! what?!) but it slowly dawned on me that banked track has different rules than flat track, and I tried to let it sink to the back of my mind and just enjoy the story, but it didn't quite work.It was okay. The writing is not my preferred style and it's not my preferred genre, but I think people who enjoy that genre would enjoy it, definitely.
review 2: Prior to reading Going in Circles, I had only re
... moread one of Pamela Ribbon's other books, which I loved. Needless to say, I was excited about starting Going in Circles, but it didn't wow me like You Take it From Here did. The story and the characters were mildly entertaining and the plot was not predictable, which is always great. But, overall I felt like there were too many ancillary characters with their own side stories that detracted from the main story. And all the detailed scenes and descriptions about roller derby were completely lost on me. I know very little about roller derby and really have no interest in the sport so maybe I was not the target market for this book. For me, this book was just okay. If you understand roller derby then it might be more entertaining.Having now read two of her books, I will definitely check out some of her other titles. While this book wasn't really up my alley, her writing is insightful and fun and I can't wait to check out what else she has done. less

Bought 4 books on my Kindle to my trip and this is the only one I read. Super quick, funny read.

This book was fun. Light-hearted and fast-paced. And the roller derby stuff is fascinating!
