review 1: Review : We Are Anonymous... 10/15/14 pdf version; pdf Okular page count – 952;3 stars; This book contains very good contemporary information and is the result of apparently extensive investigative research – online, via phone, and in person. In my opinion it suffers from a need to rush to press, and needed another editing review, by a third party familiar with editing narrative histories.I found after pondering why reading it was such a chore, that a better approach to the book would be to read the end reference material first. This presents personal information in compressed note format, along with speculations or conclusions regarding who some of the activists virtual names actually may have been in person. The time line at the end of the book, presenting actual “... moreattack” or intrusion actions, clarifies the main body of the text. The main body of this work suffered from repetitive text presented with regard to character online interactions. These were used to build a storyline surrounding each individual “attack” sequence or action and attempted to list or attribute individual responsibilities for the methods and “success” of the attacks. The text suffered from repetition and wordiness including too many overly descriptive adjectives. Many of these flourishes simply represented the author's opinion, style, or attempt to force a technical narrative to be an equivalent read to an easily read magazine or contemporary fiction/thriller account. It appeared that the author had access to sources who could have provided much more depth to the forms of intrusion “hacking” presented. This would have included the social engineering techniques as well as the physical server intrusion methods. This material is discussed in the glossary at the very end of the book, but being the central core of the “action”, I think it should have been presented first as the type of imperative engagement which is one of the largest areas of the focus of the current internet as it has developed. The SQL injection and password cracking, if expanded upon in a clear explanation, I think would still appeal to a large mass of readers and not have occluded the mass market appeal.
review 2: "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect Us." An intriguing peek into the life of the hacker collective that hacked some of the biggest organisations, with the biggest being the FBI in Jan 2012. For someone with limited computer background, this book totally swept me away. But be warned that this book may get your very paranoid about your Internet usage. Now, every time when my Internet breaks or slows down, I wonder if its a zombie bot being deployed by a hacker to engage in a DDoS. less
