review 1: This one is a wonderful parody of Arsenic and Old Lace. The Guilford sisters run a local B and B when one of their lodgers dies of poisoned elderberry wine. 2 parts arsenic 1 part strychnine and a pinch of cyanide. Who is the killer? What is the motive? This time around it is a lot of fun seeing Cora in action especially since she has a new beau and thinks it is interfering with her ability to solve the case. :)
review 2: This was my first book in this series and in some ways I felt like I was coming in the middle of the movie--that I didn't have all the background I needed to "get" all the banter around the main story. I picked the book up because I love crossword puzzles, suduku, etc. Unfortunately it was a library book so I couldn't do the puzzles in the b... moreook. It's a typical "lite" murder mystery--my favorite kind--an average citizen getting involved with solving crimes, having an "in" with the police department so they have all the facts/clues/etc., and then, of course, this average citizen solves the crime before the police do. This story was a take from the movie "Arsenic and Old Lace" which starred Cary Grant (whose birthday it was as I was reading the book). I like the movie and mostly I liked the book--though the ending was a little far-fetched.I plan to read one of the earlier books in this series to see if I really like the author and the heroine. I had a hard time connecting with her and that's usually what it takes for me to want to read a book series.Any suggestions on which of the earlier books to read? less
