review 1: A very unusual story based around an investigating judge looking into two incidents of mass suicide among members of an obscure cult. The language was slightly odd - as if there were one or two direct translations from French. Can one "recuperate" a briefcase from a car boot? However the judge herself was a great character and the novel was very different from a usual crime story. I would definitely look out for other novels by her.
review 2: Very nearly gave this 5 stars. It's like nothing I've read before with a magnificent setting in Jura in France and Switzerland - lots of snow around which I find appealing in novels and a great story. The central characters are splendid also - only faults possibly are that it is a bit slow in the middle, and the ending
... more does not quite satisfy - but, why should it? As I said, it's like nothing I have ever read before! less
