review 1: This is a wonderful book that follows 8 unique women, connected through a monthly bridge club, and how that connection impacts their lives over the years. I loved the camaraderie and how the joys, frustrations and sorrows are shared. Each woman has a story (as we all do) and the end is powerful and thought provoking. The characters are easy to relate to and very real. I also enjoyed the settings as events take place in many parts of Canada and are described well. I highly recommend this book. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster while you laugh, cry and contemplate with The Bridge Club.
review 2: To be honest, I'm not sure how to rate this book. I think, depending on where you are in life, "The Bridge Club" will make a difference as to how you view it.
... more I thought, overall, it was good, but some of the SOS' seemed too long for me. However, the last SOS affected me dramatically. Alzheimer's disease runs in my family. So I was very interested in reading that particular chapter.I enjoyed the women's camaraderie and the fact that they had such a beautiful friendship for most of their lives. There is something to be said of such long lasting friendships. But, the last chapter hit home for me. I believe there will be a chapter or SOS that each of us can identify with. It's worth your time to give it a try. less
