review 1: This book has a lot of potential and I think it probably loses some of the magic in its translation. The fragmented story telling was interesting and compelling at first, but fell flat in the middle. It then felt rushed at the end. I wish I knew more about Argentina and its history. I think it would've helped with my understanding. This book felt like listening to a rambling storyteller, you partially wish they'd get to the point, but kind of enjoy the journey. If it's about journey it's 4 stars. If it's about story then it's only 2.
review 2: Part I of this novella was beautifully written with good metaphors and character description, but I fell in love with the book too soon. The protagonist searches to discover his dying father's past, and in the process, d... moreiscovers a bunch of newspaper clippings, at which point, the author's narrative switches almost solely to the "reprinting" of repetitive, boring newspaper articles. What happened to the beautiful prose? less
