review 1: Great book about a woman who reaches middle age and starts questioning the choices she has made in her life after her mother dies. She goes on a journey to discover things about her mother that she never knew that explain why her mother had a closed off heart. Along the way she reconnects with an old love and realizes some things about herself. A luminous story that I didn't want to put down and was sad when it came to an end.
review 2: Secrets...and Mothers and Daughters. How well do any of us know our mothers? You know, the woman BEFORE she was a mother. When she was just a young girl with hopes and dreams of the future. The young woman in the blush of first love. I was 26 years old when I found out that my mother had been married before she married my fat... moreher (gasp!!). I had grown up hearing the story of how my 4 year old mother saw my 17 year old father at a barn dance and predicted she would marry him (how cute)! I regret not asking my parents more questions about their youth...too late now. For me, this book touched a part of me that has those regrets. A thoroughly enjoyable read. less
