review 1: I thought that this was a very interesting true crime story, but I felt that it wasn't interesting enough to warrant an entire book. I feel like it would have been better as a section in a book that is a collection of true crime stories. The book also tried to tie in the addition of newspapers sensationalizing this particular crime. I felt that could have been a good addition but it seemed too jumbled to me and I found it hard to follow. I think my favorite chapter was the last because I felt like it summed up many of the most interesting parts of the case and it ended with the line, "One curious reporter picked out a yellowed evidence envelope and opened it up. It held little inside--just six duck feathers and a mystery."

... moreter than it was. It starts out interesting, but by the time they get to the trial, you can pretty much guess how the rest is going to play out. But I always enjoy old NYC history, particularly this era, so it mostly kept my attention. I will say I enjoyed the parts about William Randolph Hearst's early years, and it made me want to read more about him and the tabloids of this time period in general. less

I don't remember the last time I did this, but I can't finish this book. I'm bored to death.
